Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on the 8th of July, 1989 in Paris. When she moved to Oxfordshire when she was five, Emma attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma was aware she would like to be an actress and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. Her performances had been in numerous Stagecoach as well as school plays when she was 10 years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions they and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first screen appearance was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in 2001. The most successful film of 2001, the film set records in its first day opening and the opening weekend's earnings. The critics were impressed by the performance of the film as well as its story. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British newspaper, was awed by her for her performance. Emma's performance was nominated and was awarded five awards for the film.
