Her film debut was in Rocket Gibraltar (1988) as Jessica Hanson. Between 1988 between 1988 and 2012, she was in television productions as Roseanne, Blossom, ER, Chicago Hope, The Simple Life, Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, Will & Grace, Less than Perfect, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Private Practice, Rules of Engagement, Psych, Malibu County and many more. Rue was a star on the big screen starting with her role as the Earth Girl who was who was a ranting activist in Can't Hardly Wait (1998), to playing a prominent part in the dramas A Slipping Down Life & A Map of the World. Rue was a nurse in the summer 2001 blockbuster Pearl Harbor and later that year starred in her first film debut Gypsy 83, playing a young woman who was a fan of the legendary and eccentric pop-rocker Stevie Nicks. Rue was chosen in 2002 to play Claude the young woman who is corporate ladder-climbing, and in the ABC sitcom Less Than Perfect.
